Teachers and students have been working hard to complete the literacy assessments for this term. Balanced Literacy Data Collection occurs each term. It is linked to a BWDSB Literacy and Mathematics Assessment Framework and our own School Program Plan. Examination of the school assessment data and comparison to BWDSB Standards/Targets occurs in Divisional Meetings which take place on a regular basis. This information is utilized by teachers to direct their instructional practices as they relate to student progress and improved student learning which we value highly. This enables us to set appropriate and realistic goals/targets for the following term. Assessment links teaching to student needs in a continuous cycle. The Balanced Literacy Assessments consist of Comprehension Attitude Strategies
Interest (CASI) for reading and the Ontario Writing Assessment (OWA) which you may have heard about from your children. These assessments, although labour intensive for both staff and students, provide valuable data which is used to provide relevant and appropriate academic programs here at SVE.
